State Troopers To Set Up Points In Duval , Nassau Counties

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Drivers in Duval and Nassau counties beware. The Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting driver license and vehicle inspection checkpoints. The check points will run from July 1, 2010, through December 31, 2010, and you could get cited. These checkpoints will be set up randomly throughout the rest of the year, but FHP is releasing the locations.

In Duval County: Pickettville Rd., Soutel Dr., Commonwealth Ave., Beaver St., Schindler Dr., Old Middleburg Rd., Firestone Rd., Peach Dr., Lenox Ave., Memorial Park Rd., Cortez Rd., Anniston Rd., Spring Park Rd., Biscayne Rd., Broward Rd., Clarke Rd., 118th St., Jammes Rd., Hyde Grove, Hyde Park, Lenox Ave. and Old Kings Road.

In Nassau County: Old Kings Rd., Ratliff Rd., Chester Rd., Miner Rd., CR 107, Pages Dairy Rd., Barnwell Rd., Cr 115, SR 115, Middle Rd., Griffin Rd., Musselwhite Rd., CR 121 and CR 119.

Troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles with defects like bad brakes, worn tires and defective lighting equipment. In addition, attention will be directed to drivers who would violate the driver license laws of Florida.

Mechanics at Evan Automotive is St. Augustine say the best way to check your vehicle, bring it in for a free inspection. While you may think you can "eyeball" tires to see if they're worn, Joey Hudgins says you really need to get a vehicle in the air to check the inside of the tires as well as the brakes. Hudgins says "It can be deceiving, you may think that your tires are ok because they look fine from the outside when the inside can be worn and dangerous. You won't be able to see that until you take the tires off or get the vehicle on a lift."

If troopers find you in violation, you will get a "corrective notice." That gives you 48 hours to fix the problem, or you will get a ticket. Fines run about a hundred dollars.
